Transition to High School

The transition for all pupils to high school, especially from a small school such as Orford, is a very important stage in a pupil’s school career. The catchment area high school for Orford is Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge. Year 6 children are offered the chance to attend Farlingaye for curriculum days where they attend lessons similar to those they will receive at high school. Farlingaye also holds an induction day, when Year 6 children are given the chance to spend the day in a class consisting of the pupils with whom they will be grouped when at Farlingaye. This eases their progress from primary to secondary education, ensuring familiarity with the Farlingaye staff and pupils from other schools. This is further enhanced by entering Farlingaye Pyramid football and netball tournaments, concerts and swimming events with other primary schools whose pupils will attend Farlingaye. When children leave Orford School, they have often formed some secure friendships outside our community.
